Topic: chroot

hi, as far as i understand symlinks should not follow outside chroot

i have two ubuntu 12.04.2 first one with mysecureshell version 1.2 and second with 1.31

neither of them treat symlinks as they should

v1.2 is not showing them at all (neither as directories) regardless of settings of chroot or ShowLinksAsLinks
v1.31 is following symlinks outside chroot - this is serious security issue!

i would really like to know if this is confirmed bug or feature or just my setup

thank you

Re: chroot

Hi,

Since MySecureShell v1.30, symlink can be "outsite" of chroot smile
For your installation of MSS v1.2 it's strange maybe an old bug sad

Re: chroot

MSS 1.2 was originally compiled for older ubuntu and it worked after ubuntu upgrade so maybe that is the reason it works so strange i will probably recompile it

bummer is that by default MSS since 1.3 goes outside chroot, is there any settings that can change that? or maybe i should  compile it myself, could you pls point me out what needs to be altered in source code to not follow symlinks outside chroot?
thank you
Andrey

Re: chroot

There is no option to prevents symlink outsite of the chroot...

But if you only use StayAtHome, users can follow symlink ONLY inside their home.
